Get ready to set your clocks back! Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 2, at 2:00 AM. That means when the clock hits 2:00 AM, we “fall back” to 1:00 AM, giving us an extra hour of sleep. While the extra rest is a bonus, the evenings get darker faster, which can leave many of us feeling a bit low on energy. The change can catch us off guard, so we’ve put together a list of 5 simple tips to stay energized and bright as the days get shorter.

Invest in a Light Therapy Lamp

Light therapy lamps are an amazing way to boost your mood as the days get shorter. During the winter months, these lamps can help increase energy by providing a bright light that mimics natural sunlight, which is especially helpful in the mornings. Therapy lamps can also benefit individuals who deal with seasonal depression or feel low on energy during the dark months.

    Add Mood-Boosting Scents

If you love candles, wax melts, or essential oil diffusers for their pleasant aromas, you’re already one step ahead. Certain scents are known to uplift your mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and make your home feel even more relaxing. Some popular scents with these benefits include lavender, eucalyptus, and citrus scents like orange, lemon, and grapefruit.

    Indoor Greenery

Growing plants and herbs indoors doesn’t just brighten up your space, but it can also help to improve air quality, boost your mood, and bring colour and life into your home when it feels dark and gloomy outside. Studies show that indoor gardening can lower stress levels and ease symptoms of anxiety or seasonal depression, making it especially helpful during the winter months when days are short and the sky gets dark faster. Boston fern, ficus tree, and bamboo palms are a few of the most effective houseplants for improving air quality and mood.

    Energy-Boosting Teas

If you want to boost your energy but coffee feels too strong or leaves you with a midday caffeine crash, try energy-boosting teas instead. Black tea is one of the most popular choices; not only does it contain caffeine, but it also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that helps to boost energy levels while promoting a calm and focused energy rather than a jittery feeling. Other great options of the same nature include matcha, green tea, and white tea, which offer a gentler and milder taste.

    Take a Short Walk

Taking a short 10 to 15-minute walk can help improve your mood and leave you feeling more awake and energized, especially when the air is chilly and refreshing in the mornings. A simple walk outdoors helps to reduce stress and naturally boost your mood. Studies show that individuals who spend time outdoors tend to feel happier and experience less anxiety compared to those who don’t.

    All Set to “Fall Back”

Remember to set the clocks back on November 2nd at 2:00 AM and be prepared for shorter and darker evenings. With these daylight saving time tips, you’re sure to stay recharged and energized throughout the colder months. Stay active and bright, and don’t let the early sunsets dim your mood!
