Toronto’s Vacant Home Tax is in effect for its third year, and the deadline for homeowners to declare their property’s occupancy status is just around the corner. At Toronto City Council last week, plans for a skyline-changing development from Oxford Properties were approved just over four months after revised plans were submitted in December 2024. The four-building, mixed-use project slated for the Financial District represents one of the largest proposed developments in Canada at over 3.1 million sq. ft and with heights ranging from 50 to 71 storeys. York Regional Police have charged a Toronto real estate lawyer with fraud and are appealing for other potential victims to come forward. Investigators with the financial crimes unit say 81-year-old Ping-Teng Tan failed to return over $500,000 to his client, the victim, following a business transaction in December 2023.  Ping-Teng Tan, of Toronto, has been charged with Fraud Over $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. Investigators are releasing Tan’s photograph as they believe there may be additional victims due to his position as a real estate lawyer. Anyone with further information is asked to contact police.…
