Royal LePage Blog | Canadian Real Estate News | Despite falling prices and lower interest rates, many renters are still pressing pause on home ownership – Royal LePage Blog
More than a quarter of Canadian renters say they considered buying a property prior to signing or renewing their current lease As Canada’s housing landscape continues to tilt in favour of buyers – thanks to lower interest rates and a growing supply of homes in many major markets – affordability is improving in some of the country’s most expensive markets. For many renters, this signals a long-awaited opening into the market. But rather than rushing in, prospective buyers are taking a more thoughtful, strategic approach, carefully assessing their timing, finances and long-term goals. According to a recent Royal LePage® survey,…
Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem said he is less concerned than he was a year ago about the deluge of mortgage holders facing a painful renewal. Following a speech to business leaders in St. John’s, NL, he told reporters on Wednesday that lowering the Bank’s policy rate from 5 per cent to 2.75 per cent over the last year eases the sting for the 60 per cent of mortgage holders who scored ultra-low rates in the early days of the pandemic and are renewing in 2025 and 2026. “Yes, there is a reset. They will be facing a higher…
Set on a stately boulevard in Toronto, just steps from the charm of Yonge-Lawrence Village and the greens of the Rosedale Golf Club, 50 Teddington Park Avenue stands as a triumph of contemporary design and craftsmanship.Dubbed “Infinity House” by architect Laith El-Bahrani, the newly built residence commands attention with a bold bronze façade — and an unmistakably modern silhouette. From the moment you arrive, it’s clear this home doesn’t just occupy a space in the sought-after neighbourhood — it transforms it.The architectural vision here is both exacting and poetic. John William Wade (source: Facebook) Alberta’s real estate regulator has revoked the licence of Calgary agent John William Wade following serious misconduct findings. The Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) announced this week that Wade’s licence to trade in real estate was cancelled effective June 11, and he is barred from reapplying for two years. A RECA hearing panel made the decision after it found Wade violated multiple sections of the province’s Real Estate Act Rules. In addition to the cancellation, Wade was ordered to pay four fines totaling $25,000 and $12,070 to cover investigation costs. He must also…
Canadian Unemployment Edges Up in May 2025, but Gains Remain in Some Sectors and Regions
Source: Statistics Canada Canada’s labour market remained relatively stable in May 2025, despite a modest uptick in the national unemployment rate. According to the latest Labour Force Survey from Statistics Canada, employment was virtually unchanged (+8,800; +0.0%), and the employment rate held steady at 60.8%. However, the national unemployment rate rose by 0.1 percentage points to 7.0%, marking its highest level since September 2016 (excluding pandemic years). This increase extends a three-month upward trend in unemployment, which has risen a total of 0.4 percentage points since February. Still, the rise was not uniform across regions or demographic groups, and several…
It wasn’t long ago that new development sales teams operated like high-stakes air traffic controllers — armed with Sharpies, whiteboards, and color-coded spreadsheets. Launch weekends meant rooms full of paper suite requests, staff scribbling updates by hand, and runners physically checking which units were still available. If you were lucky, someone was updating an Excel spreadsheet in real time. If you weren’t, the wrong unit got double-sold.Today, it’s a different world. Technology has fundamentally reshaped how new development projects are marketed, sold, and managed. Developers and sales agencies know that launching a successful project isn’t just about location or design,…
For over thirty years, Homer Simpson has been able to support his wife and three kids on just one salary. They can afford family vacations, a car, and, although money is often tight, a four-bedroom detached home in a typical American suburb. The only problem? The Simpson family home isn’t within Homer’s budget in real life in 2025. It’s not Homer’s fault; a lot of beloved TV characters have salaries that don’t translate to homeownership in the real world. While this is partly because of the creative liberties of TV, rising home prices also play a role. In 1990, the…
